Career Milestones:
early-mid 1920s
- started his own orchestra while attending college
1924 - first composition, "Riverboat Shuffle," was recorded by Bix Beiderbecke and the Wolversine, a jazz group from Chicago
1927 - went to West Palm Beach, FL (to work as a law clerk) where he heard a recording of his song, "Washboard Blues," by cornetist Red Nichol's band; it was then he decided to abandon law and try a career in music
1927 - first version of "Stardust" written
