Jimmy Buffett
Inducted: October 22, 2006

One of the most popular singer/songwriters in history started his career as a 1969-70 reporter for Billboard magazine in Nashville. Mississippi native Jimmy Buffett began his performing career by teaming up with Music Row manager Don Light. Buffett’s first two LPs were produced in Nashville by Buzz Cason, and even after moving to Florida, Buffett returned to Music City repeatedly to record with such producers as Don Gant, Norbert Putnam, Jimmy Bowen and Tony Brown. While “Come Monday” and “Margaritaville” are his only “hit” singles, millions of fans sing along to the rest of his catalog every year at sold-out concerts featuring other well-known Buffett compositions such as “Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit,” “Changes In Latitudes,” “Cheeseburger In Paradise,” “Fins” and “Son Of A Son Of A Sailor.” Buffett’s 1992 boxed-set is Quadruple Platinum, and his 1995 Greatest Hits set is seven-times Platinum. Most covers of his tunes are by Nashville artists, and the biggest hit of his career was his 2003 duet with Country star Alan Jackson. Buffett moved his song publishing to Nashville in 1984, bought a Nashville home in 1991 and played the Tennessee ball at the Clinton inauguration in 1993.
