Gary Burr
Inducted: October 16, 2005

With more than 20 ASCAP Awards, Gary Burr is one of the most successful contemporary songwriters in Nashville. Over the years, Gary has been named NSAI Songwriter of the Year (1992 and 1994), ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year (1995) and Billboard Songwriter of the Year (1994). Though his base is in Country music, Burr in recent years has provided songs to Pop stars such as Clay Aiken, Michael Bolton, Ricky Martin and Kelly Clarkson. A Connecticut native, Gary moved to California to pursue a recording contract, and issued his debut album in 1978 on Lifesong Records. He joined Pure Prairie League after Vince Gill left the group in 1982. He initially scored as a songwriter in 1982 with Juice Newton’s hit “Love’s Been A Little Bit Hard On Me,” but not until several years later did he hit his stride as a composer. He moved to Nashville in 1989 and enjoyed a massive breakthrough in 1992-93 with four nearly simultaneous Top-10 hits. Since then, he has been consistently one of the most recorded songwriters in Music City.
