Randy Goodrum is a Hot Springs, Ark., native who began playing piano professionally at age 16. After college, Randy served in the U.S. Army Band before moving to Nashville in 1973.

His songwriting credits include the Anne Murray smashes "You Needed Me" (#1 Pop / #4 Country in 1978 / 1978 Song of the year for both NSAI and the Academy of Country Music) and "Now And Forever (You And Me)" (#1 Country in 1986 / ASCAP’s 1987 Country Song of the Year). Randy was ASCAP’s 1981 Country Songwriter of the Year and has enjoyed hits on both the Pop and Country charts, including Michael Johnson’s "Bluer Than Blue" (#12 Pop in 1978), Anne Murray’s "Broken Hearted Me" (#1 Country / #12 Pop in 1979), the Kenny Rogers - Dottie West duet "What Are We Doin’ In Love" (#1 Country / #14 Pop in 1981), Steve Perry’s "Oh Sherrie" (#3 Pop in 1984), DeBarge’s "Who’s Holding Donna Now" (#6 Pop in 1985) and "Lesson In Leavin’," the #1 Country hit in 1980 for Dottie West & Kenny Rogers that became a #2 hit for Jo Dee Messina in 1999.
