Wayne
Kemp
Wayne Kemp began
his career at age 16 playing guitar in a local Tulsa, Okla.,club. In
1965, after a mutual friend introduced him to George Jones, Wayne
began playing lead guitar for
George and then
for other artists such as Patsy Cline, Red Sovine and Conway Twitty.
In 1967, Wayne
battled back from a terrible automobile accident to play guitar
again. In1968, after Conway Twitty recorded "The Image Of
Me," Wayne signed with Tree Publishingin Nashville. Into the
70s and throughout the 80s, Wayne enjoyed hits such as
Twittys "Thats When She Started To Stop Loving
You" (Top 5 in 1970), Johnny Cashs "One Piece At A
Time" (#1 in 1976), Johnny Paychecks "Im The
Only Hell (My Mama Ever Raised)" (Top 10 in 1977), George
Straits "The Fireman" (Top 5 in 1985), and Ricky Van
Sheltons "Ill Leave This World Loving You" (#1
in 1988). Additionally, his song "Love Bug" has been a Top
10 single twice once for George Jones in 1965 and again for
George Strait in 1994.
