"It's
always nice to have the satisfaction of having written a song all by
yourself, but there again, I've done that enough. So I don't need to
do that for the rest of my life. I want to record the best record I
can and to do that I need to record the best songs I can. If I don't
have time to write 'em, I'm gonna get 'em somewhere else."
"I
don't look for funny ideas per se. I write a song for the song. If
comedy is the best way to treat a subject, that's the way I go. When
you write a song, you have to capsulize a thought into two or three
minutes. You have to paint a picture in a very short time, using very
few words. Once you train yourself to think in that framework, you
can pick up ideas anywhere."
