Biography
Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Hugh Prestwood has long been based in Long Island, New York. Since 1982, he has been teaching advanced songwriting at The New School in Manhattan. His early successes as a songwriter came via cuts by Judy Collins and Jackie DeShannon in 1977-79, but his biggest successes by far have been with Country artists. In 1990, his “Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart” (Randy Travis) earned him BMI’s Country Song of the Year. “The Song Remembers When” (Trisha Yearwood) earned Prestwood an Emmy Award and an NSAI Song of the Year honor in 1993. “The Sound Of Goodbye” (Crystal Gayle), “Ghost In This House” (Shenandoah) and “Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart” were all nominated for Grammy Awards.
