1935--contracted to write a song for a car dealer's commercial in Louisville, KY
1937--got job playing in Pee Wee King's band, the Golden West Cowboys
1939--moved to Nashville
1944--release of Ernest Tubb's recording of "Soldier's Last Letter"; stayed at #1 for 4 week
1947--signed a lifetime exclusive songwriting contract with Acuff-Rose Publications

1972--Country Music Hall of Fame induction
